Shortcut to Abstraction

In this photographic serie, Castel starts using double or triple exposures on the same photographic film. A kind of twist or shortcut In that way the artist breaks the meaning or representational cliche of traditionnal photography. Leading his work to abstraction.

In a time lapse maner, taking a picture sometime before and sometime after revealing a movement that is not to be confused by a blurring of the image. In the mid seventies Castel started his "Reccoridos", walking the streets of the city, over and over again, much in the Recolleta, and circling around the Plaza San Martin up to Plaza Francia. This daily routine, almost obsessive, these circumvolutions evolved into his superimpression works as aggregated layers of forgotten fragments or memory, the present is the time in which we are stuck betwen the past and the future as Borges puts it. There is that feeling of things passing by, it gives a sense of spatiality to the print.
