Ventanas Ciegas 1962

Photography: Ventanas Ciegas, Los Recorridos and the Surimpressiones series

Becoming a witness instantly turned you into a victim. Seeing meant dying, so we walked blindfolded.

During the sixties and seventies, Castel captured with his camera scenes of the city of Buenos-Aires.

The Ventanas Ciegas seems in retrospect a major turning point for Castel, after his release from jail, he finds himself in a larger cell. In the sixties the country sees a succession of military regimes. The walled windows stares right at us with their contained violence of torture chamber like in his later piece la huevera.
